Micro Finance And Health Protection (MAHP) Initiative.
Bandhan was extending microfinance services - no doubt it was helping to increase the income to some extent – but due to any emergency health issue in the poor family, there was income leakage! Even the business loan seemed to get effected. This clearly showed that health intervention in some form or the other was the need of the hour. Keeping this in mind, Bandhan introduced its health program with assistance from Freedom From Hunger (FFH), a California based organization.
The goal of this project is to reduce the health expenditure of poor families, thus maintaining their ability to repay their loan, increase the enterprises and in a way sustaining the microfinance program of Bandhan.
The package of health service includes the following components:
- Health education in a sustainable manner: The same is offered in two forms -
- Through interactive and dialogue based sessions of health forums.
- The second form of health education takes place at the household level.
- Health product distribution – health kit
- Health loan
- Providing linkages / referrals:
