Ms. Ayaan Adam, Head Financial Institutions Private Equity & Manager Financial Markets South Asia,
International Finance Corporation visited Bandhan headquarters on January 31, 2012. She had the opportunity
to meet and interact with some of the senior management members of Bandhan and Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh,
Chairman & Managing Director, Bandhan. She was given a brief presentation on Bandhan and its activities by
Ms. Maneeta Rathore, Senior Manager, Institutional Finance, Bandhan. Before departing she expressed her
interest to visit Bandhan's field.

Workshop on Microfinance organised by Indian Institute of Foreign Trade

A workshop on microfinance titled Current Issues in Financing and Regulation of Microfinance Institutions in India
was organized by Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) on January 27, 2012 in their Kolkata campus.
The theme centered around the prevailing regulations which are germane to the industry and also issues
related to financing. The perpetual tradeoff between efficiency and outreach was at the heart of the
discussions especially since the MFI industry is at crossroads.

Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Chairman & Managing Director, Bandhan was invited to deliver the keynote address in the presence of Guest
of Honor, Shri. Ashoke Kumar Das, MD, WBIDFC & Special Secretary to Finance Minister, Government of West
Bengal. Mr. Ghosh also shared his views in the panel discussion on Regulation of Microfinance. Other
participants at the panel discussion included Shri. P.V.S. Suryakumar, GM, NABARD Shri. A. R. Samal, GM,
SIDBI and Mr. Rakesh K. Saxena, AGM, Indian Overseas Bank.The workshop also witnessed the presentation
of a report titled Foreign Capital Flows and MFI Performance by Dr. Bibek Ray Chaudhuri, IIFT.

Skoch Group commemorated the Financial Inclusion Day on January 05, 2012
with a series of events viz. conclaves, panel discussions and Skoch Awards organized
in New Delhi. The Financial Inclusion Day was supported by nearly ten ministries and
government departments. It brought on board more than 200 senior delegates from various
sectors across the country. Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Chairman & Managing Director,
Bandhan participated at the Bankers, Cooperatives & CBOs Conclave as a panelist on the
same day. Simultaneously Ms. Ashoka Chatterjee, Head-Institutional Finance, Bandhan took

Bandhan participates at Microfinance India Summit 2011
The 8th Microfinance India Summit 2011 was organized by ACCESS Development
Services on December 12-13, 2011 at Hotel Ashok in New Delhi.
In the context of the turn of events over the past one year in the Indian microfinance
sector, the overall theme of the Summit was Bridging the Hiatus, Building Trust, with
a view to look ahead and rebuild the sector. The Summit provided a timely platform
for stakeholders to come together and discuss the current debates of client protection
and social performance, the implications of a regulatory environment, the new thrust
of the SHG movement and obstacles of financial inclusion.
The break-out session titled Health and Microfinance: The Case for Integration held on December 13, 2011
under the aegis of Microcredit Summit Campaign and Freedom From Hunger explored the need and opportunities
of synchronizing health with microfinance by sharing the successful efforts of some leading practitioners
of microfinance and health in India. Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Chairman & Managing Director, Bandhan
participated in the above-mentioned session as a panelist and reflected on the relevance of MFIs
delivering health services. Bandhan's experience on the same was brought into focus by Ms. Maneeta Rathore,
Sr. Manager, Institutional Finance, Bandhan. The other attendees from Bandhan were Ms. Ashoka Chatterjeee,
Head-Institutional Finance and Ms. Arpita Sen, AGM-Institutional Finance.
The summit also acts as a ground for bestowal of the prestigious Microfinance India Awards. Bandhan being the
first recipient of the 'Institution of the year' when it was first instituted in the year 2009, Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh,
Chairman & Managing Director, Bandhan was requested to confer this year's award on Ujjivan Financial Services.
Mr. Samit Ghosh, Managing Director, Ujjivan received the award on behalf of the organization.
Mr. Y.C. Nanda, Chairman, Agriculture Finance Corporation and Former Chairman NABARD received Jury's Special Award for
Lifetime Achievement. Bandhan is privileged to have Mr. Nanda as a distinguished Director of its Board.

Bandhan attends workshop on Daily Work Management by BCCI
The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry ((BCCI) partnered with Quality Circle Forum of India (QCFI) to organize
a one day workshop on Daily Work Management with the help of representatives from industry, academia and others on
December 07, 2011 at the chamber premises.
The objective of the workshop was to enhance the knowledge and the capability for implementation of various statistical
tools and techniques vis-à-vis Cause and Effect Diagram-Man, Machine, Method and Materials, Pareto Analysis-Major causes
applied in day to day business operations. It is believed that this would help in furthering development and growth in
organizations in areas like organizational behavior, housekeeping-5S and its applications, application of problem solving
tools and techniques-in respect of quality of the products/ services, group dynamics of small group activities,
production/ process and productivity.
Mr. Ronendra Chowdhury, General Manager, Operations and Mr. Satyajit Ghosh, Deputy General Manager, Operations, Bandhan were in attendance at this workshop.

3-day Exposure Visit organized for Ethiopia-based REST

Bandhan hosted a 3-day exposure visit for Relief Society of Tigray (REST), an Ethiopia-based organization,
between December 22-24, 2011. REST was keen to learn about Bandhan's holistic model of poverty alleviation.
On the first day, they were given an overview of the organization by Ms. Maneeta Rathore, Senior Manager,
Institutional Finance. Following the presentation, the team had the opportunity to witness a microfinance group
meeting, interact with the borrowers, observe a couple of their business projects and also understand the
book-keeping system at the branch office.
The 3-member Ethiopian team also visited Bandhan's Targeting the Hard core Poor (THP) Program. They interacted
with both ongoing and graduate beneficiaries and this helped them understand better the process of integration
to mainstream finance. The concluding day was reserved for a debriefing session at the Head Quarters with Mr.
Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Founder & Mentor, Bandhan, who readily responded to their queries. The team returned
with a gamut of ideas and learnings which would help them to add value to their existing program.

The 8 th Microfinance India Summit 2011 was organized by ACCESS Development Services on December 12-13,

to identify impediments to its organized growth, analyze trends and help to construct a vision for its
future growth and raised topical issues for discussion and debate.

Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Chairman & Managing Director, Bandhan was requested to confer
this year's award on Ujjivan Financial Services. Mr. Samit Ghosh, Managing Director,
Ujjivan received the award on behalf of the organization.

From November 14-17, 2011, more than 2,000 delegates from over 11 countries gathered in Valladolid,
Spain for the Global Microcredit Summit, an event that is organized once every five years. The groundbreaking
Summit was organized by Microcredit Summit Campaign (MCS) with support from Spanish Agency for International
Development (AECID). H.M. Queen Sofia of Spain and Sir Fazle Abedof BRAC were in attendance.
Recognizing the contribution and leadership of Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh in microfinance and development,
he was invited as a panelist on a workshop titled "A Deeper Look at Programs that Work with the Ultra-Poor:
From Safety Net Programs to Other Innovations."

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organized the Banking Colloquium 2011 Financing Growth
Initiatives: Opportunities & Challenges on October 20, 2011 at Taj Bengal, Kolkata.
Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh was the Chairman for the 1st technical session on Financing Inclusive
Growth in the East: A Reality Check. It was a very interesting session and the distinguished
panelists shared their views on the subject. The session was followed by questions from the participants.

Apart from the Chairman & Managing Director, Mr. Ghosh, the following senior management members were also
in attendance of the colloquium. Mr. Ronendra Chowdhury, General Manager Operations, Ms. Ashoka Chatterjee,
Head Institutional Finance, Mr. Partha Sarathi Basu, Deputy General Manager HRD, Ms. Arpita Sen,
Assistant General Manager Institutional Finance and Ms. Maneeta Rathore, Senior Manager Institutional Finance.
Present also were Senior Communication Officers, Mr. Satyaki Dasgupta and Mr. Papu Banerjee.
Bandhan was the Gold Partner for this Banking Colloquium. It had put up a stall exhibiting the
products made by its borrowers. The colloquium attendees greatly appreciated the products and some
of them also purchased it from the stall.

Roundtable organized on “Contributing through Research to Policy Development”
The Centre for Micro Finance (CMF) and Sa-Dhan conducted a roundtable discussion “Contributing through Research
to Policy Development” on September 22, 2011 at Swabhumi, Kolkata.
The West Bengal roundtable was the second in a series of state-level discussions CMF has been organizing in
partnership with lead Microfinance network and institutions. The round-table aimed to present some of sector’s
research findings and fostered a productive dialogue between microfinance practitioners, policymakers, bankers
and researchers on issues relevant to current and future state of microfinance in West Bengal.
Mr. Debasish Roy Chowdhury, CEO, Bandhan’s development wing, Ms. Piyali Bhattacharjee, Senior Manager, Research &
Development and Mr. Subho Biswas, Research Associate contributed substantially in the discussion on behalf of Bandhan.

IIMC invites Bandhan to deliver a presentation
Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Calcutta offers a course on ‘Entrepreneurship in NGOs’
for its MBA students. The course objective is to enlighten them on the activities of various
organizations, their sustainability, fund raising, duty towards society and the like.
Bandhan is invited every year to deliver a presentation and brief the students about its activities.
On September 21, 2011, Ms. Maneeta Rathore, Senior Manager Institutional Finance visited IIMC campus
and made a presentation to the students pursuing the above mentioned course. She was accompanied by
Mr. Partha Pratim Samanta, DGM Operation.
Post the presentation, some of the students have expressed their interest to intern with Bandhan.
Bandhan is looking into the internship requests.

Mr. Thomas S. Davenport, Director, South Asia—International Finance Corporation paid a visit
to the Bandhan’s Head Office on September 2, 2011, soon after closing of the IFC equity round.
He was accompanied by other senior officials from IFC like Mr. Anil Sinha, Regional Head, Advisory
Services, South Asia, Mr. Swapnil K Neeraj, Senior Microfinance Specialist-Global Financial Markets,

Meeting on development of WISSDOM2-Banking

Government of India has identified the Banking and Financial Services sector as a critical
sector and wishes all candidate organizations to become ISO 27001 compliant. Towards this end,
the Department of Information Technology (DIT), Govt. of India, has sanctioned a project for the
development of a tool suite that will serve to make Banks and Financial organizations ISO 27001
compliant. This tool suite has been termed WISSDOM2-Banking (Web-service based Information
System Security Design and Operational Management for Banking), and is being developed by
the Centre for Distributed Computing, Jadavpur University (CDC-JU).
In this connection a meeting was organized in the Department of Computer Sc. & Engg, Jadavpur
University on September 8, 2011 to discuss the design and development of WISSDOM2-Banking.
Bandhan was invited to share their suggestions in giving shape to the tool suite. Mr. Ronti Kar, General Manager,
IT & MIS represented Bandhan at the meeting.

FICCI-IBA Conference on ‘Global Banking: Paradigm Shift’

FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry) along with IBA (Indian Bank Association)
organized the tenth edition of Annual Conference on ‘Global Banking: Paradigm Shift’ (FIBAC 2011)
from August 23-25, 2011 in Mumbai. The theme of this year’s conference was ‘Productivity Excellence’.
The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), pre-eminent global strategy consulting firm, was the
Knowledge Partner to the conference.
Dr. D Subbarao, Governor, Reserve Bank of India, Prof. Njuguna Ndung’s, Governor, Central Bank of
Kenya and Mr. Tiff Macklem, Senior Deputy Governor, Bank of Canada graced the occasion.

A training program on ‘Gender Budgeting for Empowerment of Rural Poor Women’ was held at the National
Institute of Rural Development, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India Hyderabad from
August 1st- 5th 2011. The program was designed to sensitize and empower the officials in assessing
the status of women, allocation of resources for women development and designing Gender Budgets
in Rural development programs and empower the Rural Poor Women. The program was primarily meant
for PDs, APDs, DRDA Officials, Senior and Middle Level Development Personnel from Rural Development
Department, Women Development Corporation, Banks and NGOs.

Expert Group Consultation on the Gender Issues in the MF Draft Bill

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Gender Community, Solution Exchange – a
Knowledge Management initiative of United Nations agencies in India organized an Expert Group
Consultation on August 17, 2011 at UNDP Conference Hall, New Delhi to review the Microfinance
Institutions (Development and Regulation) Draft Bill 2011 from a gender perspective.
The Ministry of Finance, Government of India has placed same Draft Bill on its website,
inviting comments from various stakeholder groups. The Consultation comprising of a group
of selected experts from across the country, focused on some of the key questions like
the provisions in the Bill with gender implications, impact on women’s economic empowerment,
implications for women-owned and managed financial institutions and also indebtedness.
The discourse also delved inside the possible impact of the Bill on the RBI-professed
financial inclusion agenda, especially for women.

The inaugural “India International Banking and Finance Summit” was organized in London on June 19-20, 2011.
The summit was supported by UK Trade & investment, The CityUK, City of London Corporation, and the Government
of India led by its High Commission in the UK.
Nearly 30 banking and financial services organizations from India and over 400 from UK/Europe participated in the two-day summit.
The summit addressed various topics including banking regulations in India, Capital markets, Asset management,
Infrastructure financing, financial services skills.
Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Chairman & Managing Director, Bandhan participated in the summit and represented Bandhan
in the special round table on “Inclusive Banking” arranged in collaboration with the Small Industries Development

The HR and IR committee of the Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry organized a workshop on
‘Knowledge Updation on ESI Act’ on June 01, 2011 in Kolkata.
The purpose of the workshop was to consider in-depth the issues which are being faced by practicing
managers while implementing the above Act. The delegates were able to update their knowledge on
implementation of the various clauses of ESI Act.

Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) organized a conference titled ‘Financial Inclusion – Opportunities,
Challenges & Way Forward’ on May 18, 2011 in Agartala. The conference was inaugurated by Hon’ble Governor
of Reserve Bank of India.
The aim is to identify opportunities and challenges in achieving Financial Inclusion in the North East and to
devise a way forward by involving all the stakeholders to enhance the penetration of the formal financial
sector with a view to improving the well-being of our society.

World Bank delegation visits Bandhan
As part of the Second Implementation Support Mission under the project
‘Scaling Up Sustainable and Responsible Microfinance’ a team of senior
representatives from World Bank visited Bandhan’s Patna circle office
to cognize its operational facets on May 11, 2011. The team consisted
of Mr. Neeraj Verma, Senior Financial Sector Specialist, Mr Zvi Ziv,
Senior Banking Sector Advisor, and Ms. Sona Thakur.
They visited field to witness a group meeting. They had detailed interaction
with the women borrowers. Thereafter they returned to the circle office wherein
a presentation was delivered to them which captured Bandhan’s activities and present
microfinance scenario taking into consideration the Andhra Pradesh crisis. Apart
from the senior operations personnel of the Patna team, also present were Mr.
Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Chairman & Managing Director and Ms. Maneeta Rathore, Manager Finance.

Sector – Possible Options’ on April 29, 2011 in New Delhi. Upon the cordial invitation
of ASSOCHAM, Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Chairman & Managing Director, Bandhan participated
as one of the panelists of the discussion.
The essence of the roundtable was based on Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) discussion
paper on ‘Entry of New Banks in the Private Sector’.
